SO, senior MDC-T executive members from Matabeland; Vice President Thokozani Khupe, national chairman Mr Lovemore Moyo and national organising secretary Abednigo Bhebhe boycotted a fundraising dinner that was meant to mobilise funds for ailing President Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s chemotherapy.
Khupe, Moyo and Bhebhe were absent despite having attended the National Budget presentation an hour before the dinner kicked off. Those who attended also revealed that Khupe was absent even though she was part of the speakers on the programme, forcing Tsvangirai to speak on the need for unity. About $60 000 was raised for Mr Tsvangirai’s chemotherapy. Why would senior party official boycott their dear leader’s fundraising for health matters unless things have fallen apart?
But when history speaks to history, people are reminded on the many splits in the MDC body politic. MDC 99 (Job Sikhala), MDC T (Morgan Tsvangirai), MDC N (Welshman Ncube), MDC M (Arthur Mutambara), MDC Renewal Team (Tendai Biti) and Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe (Elton Mangoma). Are we not going to see MDC K (Thokozani Khupe)? Only time will tell!
